Assessment of Awareness and Attitudes of Community Pharmacists in Northwest Nigeria towards Chronotherapy

Abstract
Introduction: Good practice and application of chronotherapy can optimize therapeutic benefits; however, these benefits can be compromised by poor knowledge and nonchalant attitude towards the application of principles of chronotherapy during patient management and care. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the awareness and attitudes towards chronotherapy among community pharmacists practicing in Northwest region of Nigeria. Materials & methods: This cross sectional study utilized a modified questionnaire based on current literature and it was designed to consist of 27 items which explored the respondents’ demographics, knowledge and attitudes towards chronotherapy. Results: Out of 131 filled survey instruments, 125 were included in this study as 6 were excluded due some missing data. Data analysis showed that awareness was influenced by age and years of practice. Mean total awareness and attitude scores were 8.49 ± 1.38 and 46.19 ± 5.92 respectively. Spearman’s rank-order correlation showed a statistically significant (p= 0.015) positive correlation (r=0.216) between awareness and attitude. Conclusion: The findings from this study highlight the need for a comprehensive chronotherapy-related educational program for both future and practicing community pharmacists.
